Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been released on a Ksh15 million cash bail and Ksh30 million surety after he was arraigned at Milimani Law Courts over corruption allegations on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
The embattled governor arrived at the court on an ambulance from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he has been admitted after falling sick in Kamiti maximum prison.
With being free, the Governor has been limited to a number of things that the court think will hinder investigations on charges against him.
- Travelling out of the country
The governor and co-accused will not be allowed to ‘flee’ the country until the investigations are over. The accused were ordered to deposit their passports with the court.
2. Accessing Office
The accused was also barred from accessing the county offices unless accompanied by authorised personnel on behalf of the EACC.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA
The accused will not be allowed to post on social media platforms including, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Sonko is a huge fan of social media and has for the longest time been using these platforms to drive his agendas and running Nairobi county.
Also to note, if the accused will violate the terms, it will lead to cancellation of the bond and might find his way to prison again.
