The BBI Report proposal will see Giant betting firms go packing as it stipulates scrapping off thesector.
Betting firms have grown rapidly in the recent years landing youths in habitual betting spree and continuos borrowing of loan.
With the addiction that comes with betting, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangí in August pointed it out as factors that lead to laziness among the youths.
Also the companies were said to owe the government billions of shillings in unpaid taxes.
This led to the closure of Sportpesa, Betin and other mushrooming betting firms.
The BBI, however, reccomends the scrapping off of betting firms and lottery and instead have one run by the state and with the aim of benefitting among them, the youths.
“The task-force suggests that the private betting industry be replaced with one major one run by government, whose proceeds, as is the case in other countries, are used for activities that uplift the youth, sports, culture and other social activities beneficial to citizens,” read the report in part.
The BBI was made public on Wednesday at the Bomas of Kenya by president Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
