The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested 91 people believed to have illegally entered Kenya from Ethiopia.
The 91 were arrested at a house in the Milimani area in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
The arrest follows a crackdown carried out by detectives. They are said to have been transported into the country in a trailer.
DCI says the 99 includes children. The group is believed to be preparing to enter another country for an unknown mission.
“Preliminary investigations by police reveal that the 91, (of whom 44 children) were ferried to the location onboard a trailer, and were being held temporarily as the smugglers sought means to sneak them to another country,” DCI stated.
Detectives are probing the probability of human trafficking being the case of the 99 with those behind the act being targetted.
This comes at a time when Ethiopia is facing political instability because of the fights between the government and the rebel groupTigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
